A Call From the Dark tells a story about a girl who works in a video salon. One day, she finds that somebody is selling pirated DVDs furtively. Then she struggles with herself. The first four chapters are chosen as my translation material. Chapter One introduces the background of the heroine, Stacey. Her personal character and figure are shaped in this chapter and it lays a foundation for the whole story. A customer named Robert Keppler appears in Chapter Two. He returns a pirated DVD mistakenly and it leads to the main content of this novel. At end of this chapter, a customer comes to video salon and wants to take the cardboard cut-out of Jim Carrey. This plot poses a clue for the following chapter. The main content of Chapter Three is that Stacey goes into the basement of video salon and finds numerous pirated DVDs there. At that moment, her boss Vince comes back but he did not realize that Stacey is in the basement. This roses Stacey’s curiosity about those pirated DVDs. At the beginning of Chapter Four, Robert comes back to return the original DVD. When Stacey scans the DVD, she remembers that her colleague once mentioned about the large number of the DVDs that Robert has rented in one year. So, she checks the rental history of Robert, only to find that Robert just spend $34 on renting videos in a year. At the same time, she discovers some abbreviated login names that she does not know at all. Finally, she struggles between her poor financial situation and conscience. Stacey decides to keep the secrets of pirated DVDs. At the end of this chapter, a detective sergeant P C named Rooks comes into video salon and asks some questions about the pirated DVDs.

How to Get Ready for Work in Half an Hour
I’ve never been very good at getting up early on Saturday mornings. I’m usually wasted after frying my brain all week at school and Dad never stirs unless he’s working, so there’s not much incentive. I used to drag myself up, get a bowl of cereal and hop back into bed, watch music videos and then go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Those awesome mornings have long gone.
I wish I hadn’t taken them for granted, cause who knows if I’ll ever get to sleep in again? Things have changed. I have to get up for work now,
